September is a business New Year
It’s the 1st week of September, which means your feed is about to fill up with finish-the-year-strong energy. Q4 is coming; it’s the second business New Year; business is picking back up.
All true. All worth taking seriously, because the next three months genuinely are some of the most important selling months of the year.
But it’s not what’s keeping most of us up at night (spoiler alert – that’s down to nervous system regulation).
It’s the 3am wake-up call.
You know the wake-ups I mean. No obvious reason, just suddenly awake, and your brain decides 3am is the ideal time to run a full audit of your business. Are you on the right track? Do you need a new idea, a new offer, a whole new direction? Are you actually cut out for this? What if it doesn’t work?
And notice what you’re not lying there thinking about. It’s not “I need a better marketing strategy.” It’s the bills, the kids, paying your team, paying your taxes. It’s heavy, and it’s got very little to do with tactics. Your brain has zero interest in your content calendar at 3am – it’s got bigger fish to fry, apparently.
Then morning comes, the sky lightens, and somehow it all feels more manageable again. Nothing in the business actually changed overnight – your capacity to hold it did. The 3am version of you and the 8am version of you would honestly struggle to make small talk.
So the real question isn’t how to stop worrying (32 years in, I can tell you it doesn’t fully go away). It’s how you put those thoughts to bed properly, rather than just waiting for daylight to do the job for you.
Nervous system regulation
This is where nervous system regulation and grounding come in – and I know those can sound like buzzwords if nobody’s explained what they mean. Simply put: getting your mind and body calm enough that you can think outside the spinning thoughts, not trapped inside them. Calm is what lets you access what you already know, and trust me you do already know. Most of us aren’t short on information – we’re short on access to it.
That’s usually why we end up signing up to every free resource, webinar, and download going. Not because we need more knowledge, but because a dysregulated brain goes looking for rescue in “more learning” when what it actually needs is calm. Get regulated, and you’ll often realise you already knew what to do. You’re just not doing it yet – which is a much more useful thing to get curious about.
If you’re heading into September frazzled, tired, or even well-rested and still waking up with that low hum of worry – you’re not alone. I still have those nights. The difference now is I’ve got faster at noticing it, regrouping, and getting back on track before it swallows the whole day.
Because marketing doesn’t start with strategy or tactics. It starts with you; so does your business. Daily habits and consistency win, every time, because a business can only grow as far as you can take it – and a lot of that happens subconsciously, long before it shows up in a plan.
Here’s the irony
Quick plug, and I know exactly how this looks. I’ve just spent this whole post telling you that you probably don’t need more information – and now I’m about to invite you to do something. The irony is not lost on me.
But here it is anyway – on the checklist front – I’ve put together a free daily checklist to help you spot when those thoughts have got hold of you, plus a quick daily guide to get back on track when they do – grab it here – https://page.inspiredmarketingmedia.co.uk/daily-reset
If any of this resonates, I’d love to hear it – drop a comment or send me a message.
